Title: Metadata Standards And Applicability: Dublin Core & MPEG-7 Data Elements for the Jazz Oral History Project
Source: Rutgers University Libraries
http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/events/metadata/MetadataWorkshopWeberBerger/index.shtml
Provides an overview of the DC, walking through an example step by step. Additionally, the project described also uses MPEG-7, in which I know several of you are interested. There is really just one slide on it, but further exploration of the project and/or contact with the authors may uncover useful information and examples.

Here are my 5 articles. Sorry for the messy citations, but hopefully you'll the idea. Let me know if any of the links don't work...they're pretty long.

Baca, Matthew. "Introduction to Metadata: Pathways to Digital Information." http://www.getty.edu/research/conducting_research/standards/intrometadata/index.html
This was my favorite source. It includes a great introduction, some relevant articles, a glossary, and acronyms & URLs

Duval, Erik. "Metadata Principles and Practicalities Source: D-Lib magazine," 8:4 (2002), pg. 1082.
http://www.dlib.org/dlib/april02/weibel/04weibel.html
Catherine also posted this article, and I also think it's fabulous. It's slightly more dry than the first article, but it's difficult to make this stuff sound intriguing.

The OCLC/RLG Working Group on Preeservation Metadata. "Preservation Metadata for Digital Objects: A Review of the State of Art," 31 January 31 2001.
http://www.oclc.org/research/projects/pmwg/presmeta_wp.pdf
This is another great article that gives a concise description of metadata. It focuses more on metadata in preservation and archival use, and includes an in depth discussion on OAIS.

NISO. "Understanding Metadata," 2004
www.niso.org/standards/resources/UnderstandingMetadata.pdf
So, this is the article we read a couple days ago and I thought it was worth putting here.

Hart, David and Hugh Phillips. "Metadata Primer-A "How To" Guide on Metadata Implementation."
http://www.lic.wisc.edu/metadata.metaprim.htm
This is decent source from someone from UW-Madison. It looks pretty good, although it hasn't been updated since 1998 so it may be a bit outdated.
